A bear is born

I got a lovely sewing machine for Christmas so while at home mom and I made a stuffed big!Kanon. He's 53" tall when standing.

He's made from sort of amazingly soft faux mohair stuff, his muzzle and paw pads are micro suede and his nose and toes are vinyl. It took three 20oz bags to stuff him <3

Mom did all of the face, and we each did half of the body.

Quick update

I noticed that I haven't updated in awhile, so here's what's going on:

1) As far as the Kanon modeling is concerned a large chunk of Kanon's face was deleted and I'm remodeling it.

2) Gearing myself up to start mocking up a site for my portfolio so I can send that information out for internships.

3) Gotta get a job. www.subeta.org is looking for some artists, I'm thinking of sending them an application. :/

That's about it right now. Looking forward to the break.

Uh oh

Wow, time really crept up on me.

I guess I'm not the only one, because Kerre decided that having everybody model, unwrap, make textures for, skin, rig and animate TWO character by the end of NEXT WEEK (we started this whole thing LAST week... er.. well ok to be fair he told us what to expect at the beginning of the quarter, but he hadn't really covered any sort of character modeling techniques which kinda stinks) that we could have some options.

OPTION A:
Turn in the final as earlier assigned.

OPTION B:
He was just going to cover some more rigging/modeling stuff... but we have to participate.

Hey man... I can live with that. Big!Kanon's still just a floating head. I really want him to look awesome and I can't do that when I'm worrying about not only Big!'s modeling, texturing, skinning, rigging, and animating but Little!'s too.

That was really nice of Kerre.

Speaking of models, here's an update on Little!Kanon (since Big!Kanon's been getting most of the attention lately I spent some time on Little!Kanon.):
He now has legs and I'm working on the head. The body was box modeled and his head is being patch/spline modeled.

I'm debating whether I want his legs to sprout from the body or just rest up against it.

ALSO! I've got the flash game all finished. :D

It can be found on my deviantArt.com account.

Face tweaking

He's got some ears, but they need to be cleaned up.

I also stretched the face, not so sure I like it.

The snout's giving me some trouble.

I contacted a woman in Australia about making a teddy bear Kanon, but I've yet to hear back from her. I also talked to Brittany about making a bear. She said it was do-able, but expensive. DX Sooo... I probably won't make one for a little while. ::sulk::

BUT! I found one at the store that was just 2 inches shy from being perfect (Kanon should be 14 inches tall and this one was 16) so I snagged him. I'm now looking up how to make tutus.

The cutest part, he came with a mini bear. SO maybe if I have some left over material I'll make that one a tutu too and I'll have big and little Kanon! :)

I'll hopefully make my own Kanon anyway, but if that doesn't fall through I'll always have this one to have sitting on my table during portfolio.

EDIT!:
I figured out what was going on with his ear. When I stretched out parts of his face I guess some verteci didn't get selected.

Here's a cleaner close up of his fixed ear:

He's been a real challenge so far. I've never really modeled anything like this, both in method and subject. The ears were something that gave me a lot of trouble, but I think they turned out alright. Next is his snout which has been a nightmare.

Model update

Here's some more progress on Kanon.

Big Kanon (high poly):

And Little Kanon (low poly):

I'm really tempted to go out and buy a pattern to make a real life "Little Kanon," I think he'd look really smart sitting on my table during portfolio.

Here are the model sheets:
